More than 100 San Francisco firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at a four-story apartment building near Twin Peaks on Tuesday morning, Nov. 3. A dog died, but no people were hurt, the San Francisco Fire Department said.
What happened
The fire broke out at 10 Argent Alley, a residential building tucked off the 3800 block of Market Street. Crews arrived around 9 a.m., ABC7 News reported. The fire burned on the third and fourth floors, the department said, and every floor was damaged. Fire department video showed flames down to at least the second floor, according to Mission Local.
Firefighters raised a ladder from a truck on Market Street to reach the building, which sits back from the street. The fire was under control by 10 a.m., Mission Local reported, during a morning of light rain.
Pets and residents
All residents got out on their own, the department said. A dog was rescued but later died of its injuries. While cleaning up, firefighters found a family's missing cat and carried it out of the smoke-filled building, ABC7 News reported.
Fire Capt. Jonathan Baxter told ABC7 that property owners helped crews figure out which units residents lived in and who might need help. Three or four people will be displaced, the department said. One displaced household has started a fundraiser to cover housing and replace belongings.
Road closure and cause
The 3800 block of Market Street was closed in both directions during the response. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
