In the hills above Berkeley, past the merry-go-round and the steam trains, there is a small barnyard.
What's there
The Little Farm is a model farm with a vegetable garden, shorthorn cattle, sheep, goats, rabbits, pigs and poultry, according to Wikipedia. Visitors can no longer feed the animals, but they can join naturalist-led programs. The farm sits next to the Environmental Education Center at the south end of the Tilden Nature Area, near the boardwalk to Jewel Lake.
Hours and rules
The East Bay Regional Park District says the Little Farm is open during regular park hours, and the Tilden Nature Area is open 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Environmental Education Center is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dogs are not allowed in the Tilden Nature Area, and bikes are prohibited around the center and the Little Farm.
This fall
The district says part of the trail between Lone Oak and Wildcat View Group Camp is closed weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until early November for wildfire tree work. Large trucks are using Wildcat Creek Trail through Oct. 30 for the Lake Anza dredging project.
