San José State women’s basketball opens its season Monday, Nov. 2, at Nebraska. Tipoff at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln is noon Central, 10 a.m. Pacific. The game streams on B1G+, and Nebraska Public Media televises it in Nebraska.
It follows Nebraska’s annual Sizemore Sportsmanship Pep Rally. Nebraska says a record 4,016 students and accompanying adults from 70 schools are scheduled to attend.
A rebuild in San José
The Spartans went 4-28 last season. They scored 55.8 points per game and allowed 72.0, according to Nebraska’s preview. Second-year coach Jonas Chatterton, a former longtime Oregon State assistant, has remade the roster. Only four players return. Newcomers include Moorpark College transfer Maleyni Tolliver, who averaged 16.6 points and 7.3 rebounds there, and guards Kayla Lorenz (UTRGV) and Adlee Blacklock (Texas Tech). Blacklock scored 29 in a 76-74 overtime exhibition loss to Cal State East Bay on Oct. 28. Returner Rylei Waugh missed that game.
The opponent
Nebraska went 19-13 last season and lost to Baylor 67-62 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Amy Williams is in her 11th season. SJSU is 0-3 all-time against the Huskers. The Spartans play next at Oklahoma on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m. PT.
