Bay Area roots
Yoshi's biography notes that her father is percussionist Pete Escovedo, her uncles include Azteca founder and former Santana member Coke Escovedo, and Tito Puente was her godfather. She grew up hearing Bay Area acts from Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead to the Pointer Sisters and Sly & the Family Stone. "The sounds of the Bay Area molded me," she says in the bio.
She has recorded and toured with Prince, Marvin Gaye, Herbie Hancock, Ringo Starr, Beyoncé and others.
