Herlin Riley, the New Orleans drummer whom Yoshi's calls "The Groove Master," plays Yoshi's in Jack London Square on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Doors are at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.
Who he is
Riley was the longtime drummer for pianist Ahmad Jamal and for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. He now leads two groups: his own quintet, and the New Orleans Groove Masters with Jason Marsalis and Shannon Powell. His album Perpetual Optimism reunites the quintet from his Mack Avenue debut, New Direction: trumpeter Bruce Harris, saxophonist Godwin Louis, pianist Emmet Cohen and bassist Russell Hall.
See Yoshi's event page for ticket prices and seating.
