Hollywood's take on the OpenAI saga is coming home. SFFILM announced on Oct. 28 that Luca Guadagnino's Artificial will receive the 2026 SF Honors Award at its Bay Area premiere on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. in the Kanbar Hall theater at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco, 3200 California St.

The film

SFFILM describes Artificial as a "darkly funny and incisive commentary" on Silicon Valley's race toward generative AI, spanning two decades in the rise of Sam Altman and OpenAI. Gold Derby reports Andrew Garfield plays Altman. The cast also includes Yura Borisov, Monica Barbaro, Cooper Hoffman, Jason Schwartzman, Ike Barinholtz and Mark Rylance. Distributed by NEON, the film opens in select theaters on Christmas Day and everywhere on Jan. 8.

Guadagnino, Garfield, Borisov and Barbaro are scheduled to attend in person to accept the award and take part in a conversation after the screening. "This is a story San Francisco is living through in real time," SFFILM board president Todd Traina said.

Tickets

SFFILM members could buy tickets starting Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 10 a.m.; sales open to the public on Friday, Oct. 30, at 10 a.m. at sffilm.org. General admission is $50, $45 for members and $48 for seniors, students and ADA, plus a $1.50 service fee. SFFILM says the screening will have closed captions and audio description.

About SF Honors
