The San Francisco Symphony and choreographer Alonzo King's LINES Ballet team up again at Davies Symphony Hall, with three evening performances: Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 19-21, at 7:30 p.m.

The program

  • Prokofiev, Sinfonia concertante, featuring SF Symphony Principal Cello Rainer Eudeikis
  • Debussy, Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune, danced by LINES Ballet
  • Copland, Suite from Appalachian Spring, danced by LINES Ballet

James Gaffigan, who was the Symphony's associate conductor from 2006 to 2009 and has been named music director of Houston Grand Opera starting in 2027, conducts. Robert Rosenwasser designs the costumes.

The Prokofiev is a cello concerto in all but name, and one of the most demanding roles in the cello repertoire, the Symphony notes. Eudeikis has been principal cello since 2022 and previously held the same post with the Atlanta and Utah symphonies.

Free talk

Members of the orchestra and LINES Ballet speak on stage with the Symphony's Benjamin Pesetsky an hour before each performance, free to ticketholders.
