Serra left no doubt in the WCAL title race on Halloween. The Padres (8-1, 6-0 WCAL) beat defending champion Riordan 49-14 on Saturday in San Francisco for their eighth straight win since a season-opening loss to De La Salle.

How it went

Oregon-bound safety Malakai Taufoou set the tone on Riordan's first possession, intercepting a deflected pass and returning it 75 yards for a touchdown. Cal-bound Jeovanni Henley added a 1-yard run, and junior quarterback Jax Cannon hit Charlie Walsh on a 52-yard catch and run. Two plays into the second quarter, Taufoou made a diving 15-yard touchdown catch, and Serra soon led 35-0.

Cannon finished 12 of 18 for 207 yards, and his USC-bound brother Jace Cannon caught five passes for 101 yards. Kapono Keaania ran 13 times for 109 yards, including a 55-yard touchdown.

Riordan (6-3, 5-1) played without its top player, UNLV-bound running back Adonyae Brown, who was out with an ankle injury. The loss ended the Crusaders' seven-game home winning streak and their three-game winning streak over Serra.
