A new-look league

Three men's basketball programs join the Mountain West this season: Grand Canyon, Hawai'i and UC Davis. San Diego State has left for the Pac-12. New Mexico's Jake Hall was voted Preseason Player of the Year. No Spartan made the 11-player preseason all-conference team.

A big rebuild

Hoops HD notes that San José State went 9-24 overall and 3-17 in conference last season, and that all five starters are gone. Writer David Griggs points out that Miles won at North Dakota State and Colorado State and took Nebraska to an NCAA Tournament, but "cannot seem to get anything going at San Jose State."
