San Jose's new professional women's hockey team doesn't have a name or a logo yet, but it does have a look. PWHL San Jose unveiled its first home and away jerseys on Thursday, Oct. 8, and the home sweater is a bright mandarin orange with sky blue trim.

The team says the orange is a nod to two things: the orange groves that once covered much of the Santa Clara Valley and the colors of San Jose's city flag. According to the league, it is the first time equipment maker Bauer has used mandarin orange as a team's primary color. The away jersey is white.

Why the jersey just says 'San Jose'

Both jerseys have "SAN JOSE" stitched diagonally across the front. That follows a tradition the Professional Women's Hockey League started with its first eight teams, which all played their debut seasons under city names before picking nicknames. San Jose is one of four expansion teams this year, along with Detroit, Hamilton and Las Vegas, which revealed their jerseys the same day.

The team plans to announce its full name and logo before its first game. Those won't appear on the ice until the 2027-28 season, so fans will see the city-name design all of this first year.

When fans can see it, and buy it

PWHL San Jose plays its first game at SAP Center on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 4 p.m. PT against the Minnesota Frost. The league's opening weekend runs Dec. 5 and 6.

Replica home jerseys, including versions with player names, go on sale in the week before opening weekend, the league said. T-shirts styled after the jerseys, with the names and numbers of Laila Edwards, Rory Guilday and Corinne Schroeder, are already sold through the PWHL's online shop and at SAP Center.

Fans may get an early look sooner. KRON4 reported that select PWHL San Jose players are expected at the Sharks' "PWHL San Jose" night at SAP Center on Saturday, Oct. 10.

"I think the bold colors represent the Bay Area vibe so well," forward Kristin O'Neill said in the team's announcement.
