Two San Jose City Council incumbents are ahead in their reelection bids, and a newcomer leads in the race to replace termed-out Vice Mayor Pam Foley.
District 5: Incumbent Peter Ortiz had 5,883 votes (55%) to former Assemblymember Nora Campos' 4,798 (45%), according to
ABC7 and
NBC Bay Area.
KQED notes the East San Jose district has large Latino and Asian communities and faced historic inequities; Campos lost to Ortiz in 2022.
District 7: Incumbent Bien Doan led Van Le 60% to 40% (6,718 to 4,429) in ABC7's count.
KQED notes Doan is trying to become the first District 7 member reelected since 2010 in a district home to Little Saigon. Both candidates came to the U.S. as refugees from Vietnam in 1975.
District 9: Genny Altwer led Gordon Chester 54% to 46% (8,553 to 7,383).
KQED says Vice Mayor Pam Foley, an ally of Mayor Matt Mahan and part of his moderate council majority, is termed out after eight years in the Cambrian-area seat.
KQED's results pages showed earlier, smaller vote totals than ABC7 and NBC but the same leaders in all three races.
All results are unofficial election-night and early-morning counts as of Wednesday, Nov. 4. Counties keep counting mail and provisional ballots for days, and certification comes later, so margins can shift, especially in close contests.
