A San Francisco man who worked at Google has been charged in Minnesota with sexually assaulting a coworker during a trip for a colleague's wedding.
Antony Sun Liwanag, 33, faces two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct in Hennepin County, FOX 9 reported. The charges allege that the assault happened on July 2.
What the charges allege
According to the charging documents, the woman was in Minnesota for a coworker's wedding and attended a pre-wedding party in Minneapolis. Liwanag, a coworker, invited her to another bar. After a few drinks, she said she felt "out of it and very intoxicated" and believed he had put something in her drink.
The charges say he kissed and groped her without consent while she was boxed in against a wall, then ordered an Uber to her hotel in St. Louis Park even though she tried to tell him she did not want to go. She collapsed outside the bar. Hotel surveillance video showed her unable to walk on her own as he carried her and dragged her toward an elevator, the charges allege. Prosecutors say he tried to assault her again in the room, and she was able to push him away. She flew home the next day without attending the wedding.
Authorities believe Liwanag poses a danger to public safety and have requested a warrant for his arrest, according to the charges. The charges are allegations; he has not been convicted.
The Chronicle reported that Liwanag's LinkedIn profile lists a strategy and operations job at Google DeepMind, after nearly three years at YouTube and earlier roles at Google and Southern California Edison. A Google spokesperson confirmed to the Chronicle that he "no longer works here" but did not say when or why he left.
