The third season of Netflix's "A Man on the Inside" may be the most extensive production San Francisco has hosted in recent years, SFGATE reported, possibly eclipsing 2021's "The Matrix Resurrections." Ted Danson and the crew are spending 28 days shooting in the city, and the shoot runs until Nov. 6.

"Usually we come up here for a week and make it look like we're filming in San Francisco. Not this year. We are here all the time, all of the streets," Danson said in an Instagram video with Mayor Daniel Lurie.

Where they've filmed

Film SF gave SFGATE 129 pages of documents on locations through Oct. 22. They include:

  • Landmarks: City Hall (Sept. 28), the Ferry Building, the Legion of Honor (a night shoot), Union Square Plaza and a cable car scene at California and Jones.
  • Chinatown: the 600 block of Jackson Street, the 700 block of Grant Avenue and St. Louis Alley.
  • Restaurants and bars: David's Delicatessen on Geary (Oct. 9), Sam's Grill (Oct. 14), Tommy's Joynt and Comstock Saloon.
  • Interiors: the San Francisco Armory, the University Club on Nob Hill, the Curran Theater, the Regency Ballroom and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.

The production also spent a few days in San Carlos. This season's plot centers on a "grand dame of San Francisco society" played by Bernadette Peters.

A city incentive at work

SFist reported the series will nod to the city's film-noir past and that the shoot comes as an expanded city incentive program tries to draw more productions. Lurie visited the Legion of Honor set on the 31st wedding anniversary of Danson and co-star Mary Steenburgen. No Season 3 release date has been set.
