For about the last month, the Roxie Theater has also been programming the New People Cinema in Japantown. The extended series will run through mid-December, Mission Local reports.
The partnership started with a few pop-ups earlier this year, after New People's management asked whether the Roxie would be interested in working together. "We saw it as an exciting opportunity to bring more cinema to San Francisco, connect with audiences in Japantown, and expand our programming," said Isabel Fondevila, the Roxie's programming director.
What's showing
Screenings will include Japanese cinema, new releases, new restorations, repertory favorites, special events and filmmaker appearances. Current listings on the Roxie's site include Nobuhiko Obayashi's 1977 film Hausu, The Snake Girl and the Silver-Haired Witch and The Great Experiment, with a post-screening Q&A.
Where
New People Cinema is at 1746 Post St. in Japantown. Tickets and showtimes are on the Roxie's website. Fondevila said the Roxie is treating the fall run as an experiment that will help it decide what makes sense for the partnership after that.
