Reem's California at 2901 Mission St., at 25th Street, reopened last week after nearly three months dark, Mission Local reported. The restaurant closed July 30 after a hit-and-run caused $200,000 in structural damage.

About Reem's

Syrian-Palestinian chef Reem Assil started Reem's more than a decade ago, while she was part of the La Cocina incubator. After farmers markets and a spot in Fruitvale, she opened the Mission location in the old Mission Pie storefront just before the 2020 lockdown. She opened a Jack London Square location in Oakland in June.

Día de los Muertos in the Mission

  • Nov. 1, 4 p.m.: a Community Music Center concert at Mission Dolores Basilica, 3321 16th St., with Coro de Camara, Coro Solera and Mariachi CMC. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
  • Nov. 2, Potrero del Sol Park: community altar-building starts at 10 a.m. The Mercado de los Muertos opens at 4 p.m., there's a sunset blessing at 5, and performances start at 7. This year's theme is "Familia: Entre raíces y el Cielo."
  • Nov. 2, 7 p.m.: the procession begins at Bryant and 22nd streets.

On the west side, Mission Local's Richmond Buzz reports a Día de los Muertos celebration on Balboa Street on Nov. 1.
