Ragle Ranch Regional Park is on the west side of Sebastopol, at 500 Ragle Road. Wikipedia lists it at 157 acres. Sonoma County Regional Parks says it is noted for its oaks and for the bird-watching habitat along Atascadero Creek.
The front of the park
The county lists soccer and softball fields, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, a playground, a parcourse, an off-leash dog park, a peace garden, and picnic sites with barbecues. A paved trail loops around the east side past most of them. Wikipedia puts the paved loop at 0.83 miles.
The fenced dog park has a small agility course and small-dog hours each day from 11 a.m. to noon and 3 to 4 p.m. Local operators run the tennis and volleyball courts under license agreements with the county, and some courts are open to the public on a first-come basis. There is also a solar-powered EV charger near Soccer Field 2, included in the entry fee.
The back of the park
More than 3 miles of unpaved trails loop around the west side and along Atascadero Creek, past meadows, wetlands and small streams lined with willows, ashes and oaks. Hilltop Trail has views across the watershed toward western Sonoma County, and Blackberry Trail circles the interior meadows. The county suggests the Blackberry and Towhee loop (1.9 miles) or the Hilltop and Towhee loop (0.8 miles). Leashed dogs and horses are welcome. Some back trails close seasonally when they flood.
Families can try the Fog to Bog watershed quest, a self-guided treasure hunt about the park's seasonal wetland that starts at the top of Blackberry Trail.
Before you go
The park is open 7 a.m. to sunset, and parking is $8 or free for members. The county says the tot lot for ages 2 to 5 will close Nov. 2 to 6 for maintenance, while the larger playground stays open. The Joe Rodota Trail to Santa Rosa starts on the other side of town.
