Parts of Nob Hill and Chinatown went dark Wednesday evening, Oct. 28, after PG&E crews found damaged equipment.
Where and when
PG&E's outage tracker showed the outage starting at 8:43 p.m. and affecting 1,637 customers, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. Affected customers were clustered between Leavenworth and Stockton streets and between Broadway and California Street.
San Francisco's Department of Emergency Management said the outage hit PG&E customers in Chinatown, North Beach and South of Market. As of 9 p.m., 1,935 customers were without power citywide, according to Bay City News.
Cause and restoration
PG&E said on its website that crews found damaged equipment and would make repairs. The utility first estimated that power would be back around 2:30 a.m. Thursday. A PG&E spokesperson could not immediately be reached Wednesday night, the Chronicle reported.
Another outage
Bay City News called it "another large, unplanned power outage" for the city. About a week earlier, an underground vault fire caused an outage in the Tenderloin and Civic Center.
If your power goes out
PG&E posts outage locations and estimated restoration times on its online outage map at pge.com. Keep refrigerators closed as much as you can, unplug sensitive electronics so they aren't hit by a surge when power returns, and use flashlights instead of candles.
