Who benefits

Vietnam veteran and marathon runner Charles Weston started the run to raise money for local veterans’ groups and bring the community together. Dogs are welcome too. According to the organizers’ press release, as reported by the Morgan Hill Times, this year’s partners are Operation Freedom Paws, which trains service dogs for veterans; South Bay Blue Star Moms; and Open Doors to Future Possibilities, which offers counseling and services for veterans. The race website says all race proceeds benefit Operation Freedom Paws.

Last year, 272 runners and walkers took part and raised $25,000, the Times reported. “Small gestures mean a lot to those who have sacrificed so much,” Weston said.
