These are two of the four Morgan Hill Unified seats on the Nov. 3 ballot. The descriptions below come from statements the candidates wrote for the Morgan Hill Times. For Areas 1 and 2, see our Area 1 and 2 explainer.
Area 3: three candidates
- Sarah Northrup Gadus (incumbent) is an MHUSD parent, appointed trustee and college student studying social work. She says that in two years on the board she helped keep reserves around $37 million without mass layoffs or school closures, preserve counselors and elementary arts and PE, and secure daily prep time for elementary teachers. She also voted for school facility investments.
- Art Cohen is a business executive, county commissioner and Rotarian whose wife is a teacher. He is endorsed by the Morgan Hill Federation of Teachers and calls for fiscal transparency, stronger special education services and proven strategies in reading and math.
- Cesar Gamboa is a Morgan Hill educator who emphasizes high expectations, attendance, support for students with different needs and making schools accessible to families regardless of the language they speak at home.
Area 4: Glen Webb vs. Claudia Ortiz
- Glen R. Webb describes 40 years in MHUSD as a teacher, coach, principal, director and interim principal. His priorities include reading at grade level by third grade, algebra readiness by middle school, competitive pay to reduce turnover and ending deficit spending.
- Claudia Ortiz is a small business owner, first-generation college graduate and MHUSD parent who has served on Home and School Club and School Site Council since 2020. She stresses career technical education, literacy and 21st-century skills.
