The Milpitas Unified board race is at-large, so every voter in the district can pick up to three candidates, and the top three vote-getters win. With four running, only one will miss out. Ballotpedia lists the four as Franchesca Lacanlale, Chris Norwood, Anuradha Sankaran and Kelly Yip-Chuan. City races are covered in our Milpitas mayor and council explainer.
The candidates
- Kelly Yip-Chuan has been on the board since 2018 and is seeking a third term, The Milpitas Beat reports. She is a former PTA leader and substitute teacher who was an English learner growing up. Her priorities are student success, safe schools, support for educators and staff, and responsible fiscal management.
- Anuradha Sankaran is an engineer with 20 years of experience who has lived in Milpitas for almost a decade. Her youngest son graduated from Milpitas High in June. She is running on academic excellence and AI literacy, wants guardrails for AI and “human-centered learning,” and serves on the city's Environmental and Sustainability Commission.
- Chris Norwood is the current board president, according to the district's board page, and is seeking another term.
- Franchesca Lacanlale is a first-time candidate listed by Ballotpedia. We could not find independent reporting on her platform before publication.
