Tidal flooding closed two roads in Mill Valley again on Wednesday, Oct. 28, Mill Valley police said, Patch reports.
Closed roads
- Miller Avenue between Camino Alto and Almonte, announced by Mill Valley police at 12:33 p.m.
- Redwood Highway Frontage Road between Hamilton Drive and 555 Redwood Highway Frontage Road, announced at 1:07 p.m.
Police did not give reopening times. Check Mill Valley police alerts before driving through the area, and don't drive into standing water.
Tuesday's flooding
ABC7 reports Shoreline Highway in Mill Valley flooded on Tuesday for the second day in a row. Its SKY7 helicopter recorded a pickup truck driving through the floodwater, a woman whose car got stuck being carried to safety by a firefighter, and kayakers paddling through the water. High water also spilled onto San Francisco's Embarcadero near Pier 14 and flooded parts of the Palo Alto Baylands.
Why the tides are so high
Patch reports that unusually warm Pacific waters, El NiƱo conditions and other ocean patterns are pushing water levels above astronomical tide predictions. The National Weather Service's coastal flood advisory runs through Friday. The highest predicted tides of the season are still expected around Thanksgiving and Christmas, and how much flooding they bring will depend on whether storms or big waves arrive at the same time.
