San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie remains popular, but new polls suggest his approval has slipped about 10 points from its high, Mission Local reported.

The numbers

  • USC CEPP poll (Oct. 16–19): 63% approve, 26% disapprove, 9% neither, 2% don't know among 454 likely voters in the 11th Congressional District; margin of error ±4.6 points.
  • David Binder Research (October): 67% approve.
  • Earlier: 74% in a Chronicle poll this spring; 71% in a November 2025 Binder poll; 73% in a July 2025 Chronicle poll.

Who approves

The USC poll found Lurie's support comes mostly from voters who call themselves somewhat liberal, moderate or conservative; very liberal voters disapproved 53% to 37%. Lurie approvers lean toward Scott Wiener in the CA-11 House race, and 88% of strong Lurie disapprovers back Chan, the poll found. Lurie's numbers slightly exceed outgoing Rep. Nancy Pelosi's in the district.

Read with caution

"A mayor with greater than 60% approval ... when almost nothing cracks 50% approval, is good," said USC pollster Christian Grose. SF State professor Jason McDaniel noted the polls used different methods and samples — the USC poll covers CA-11, which excludes the Excelsior, Visitacion Valley and Portola — and some differences are within the margin of error.

Mission Local noted Lurie declared a "rent emergency" in September. His spokesperson, Max Szabo, said voters "are seeing progress."
