Lucania, a new restaurant from the team behind A16, is opening this month at 1 Ferry Building in the space that was once MarketBar Cafe, according to the SF Standard and Hoodline.
What it is
The restaurant takes its name and inspiration from Basilicata, the region in Southern Italy historically known as Lucania. The A16 group, led by wine director and co-owner Shelley Lindgren, has run its Marina restaurant on Chestnut Street for years.
The space
The SF Standard describes a patio of about 140 seats. Planned hours run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., making it one of the few full-service options on the waterfront that serves both daytime and evening crowds.
A milestone for the Ferry Building
According to the SF Standard, Lucania's arrival would bring the Ferry Building to full occupancy for the first time since 2020. In recent years the landmark has added Arquet from chef Alex Hong in the former Slanted Door space and a restaurant from the Nopa team.
Check Lucania's website for the confirmed opening date and reservations.
