Sunnyvale gets its first full-service branch library on Saturday, Oct. 31. The Lakewood Branch Library and Learning Center at 760 Lakechime Drive opens with a ceremony at 10 a.m. and family activities until 5 p.m., according to the city.
Mayor Larry Klein and Library and Recreation Services Director Michelle Perera are scheduled to speak before a ribbon-cutting at about 10:15 a.m. The city promises live entertainment, Maker Lab demonstrations and treats for anyone in costume. The Silicon Valley Voice lists the opening in its Halloween weekend calendar and encourages costumes.
About the building
The city says the one-story, roughly 20,000-square-foot center cost $29.3 million and was built with the Sunnyvale School District and the Fremont Union High School District, which each put $3 million toward construction and will share operating costs. It is all-electric, helped by a $500,000 grant from Silicon Valley Clean Energy.
The Maker Lab has a 3D printer, laser cutter, sewing machines, a large-format printer, vinyl cutters and jewelry-making supplies.
Hours
Regular hours will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. It is closed Sundays. Parking is on site and on the street.
