A seven-story affordable housing complex has opened at 1178 Sonora Court in Sunnyvale, directly across from the Lawrence Caltrain Station, SF YIMBY reported. MidPen Housing celebrated the grand opening of Ira D. Hall Square with city, county and state officials.

The building

  • Homes: 176 apartments from studios to three bedrooms, for households earning 30% to 70% of the area median income, roughly $43,170 to $100,730 a year for one person, according to MidPen.
  • Supportive housing: 45 units are reserved for people experiencing homelessness referred through Santa Clara County's Coordinated Entry system. The project received 75 project-based vouchers from the county housing authority.
  • Funding: The county contributed $11.2 million, including $2 million from the 2016 Measure A affordable housing bond.
  • Firsts: It is the first development built under Sunnyvale's Lawrence Station Area Plan, MidPen said.

"MidPen has now created 12 affordable housing developments and over 1,000 affordable units here in Sunnyvale," Mayor Larry Klein said. MidPen CEO Matthew O. Franklin called the project a tribute to the nonprofit's founding CEO, Ira D. Hall.
