Lafayette voters will not see a City Council race on their Nov. 3, 2026 ballots. The council appointed Jim Cervantes, Stella Wotherspoon and Mario DiPrisco on Aug. 20 after no other candidates filed for the three open seats.

Why it matters: Canceling the uncontested race saves the city at least $48,000 in election costs, according to the city's announcement. Lafayette residents still vote on everything else on the Nov. 3 ballot.

Who got the seats

  • Jim Cervantes, incumbent: four-year term.
  • Stella Wotherspoon, incumbent: four-year term.
  • Mario DiPrisco: two-year term.

Councilmember Susan Candell, on the council since 2018 and mayor in 2021 and 2024, chose not to run again, the city said.

What Lafayette voters still decide

Lafayette is in the Acalanes Union High School District, so residents vote on Measure W, the $168 high school parcel tax, plus federal, state and regional contests. Voter information is at contracostavote.gov.
