Alameda County prosecutors say one man is responsible for a string of 57 thefts from stores across the county. District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson announced that her Organized Retail Theft Unit is prosecuting Haki McClain in four cases covering thefts in eight Alameda County jurisdictions from 2025 through 2026.

What prosecutors allege

  • The thefts caused more than $74,000 in losses for 11 retailers in Alameda County.
  • McClain was found with more than $35,000 in stolen merchandise, the DA's office said.
  • He also has separate theft-related cases in Los Angeles and San Mateo counties, and has been identified in alleged thefts elsewhere in Northern and Southern California and in Nevada.

He is being prosecuted under California's organized retail theft law, Penal Code section 666.1, which took effect on Dec. 18, 2024.

"Mr. McClain is accused of committing 57 thefts across 8 jurisdictions in Alameda County, prompting multiple law-enforcement agencies throughout the region to investigate and share information," Jones Dickson said.

Next court date

McClain is scheduled to appear Nov. 3 at 9 a.m. in Department 104 at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse in Oakland. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
