If you're planning to watch the Blue Angels in San Francisco this weekend, the city's message is simple: leave the car at home.
The Navy flight team is scheduled to perform Saturday and Sunday afternoons as Fleet Week's air shows continue. Friday's show was cut short. The Blue Angels started shortly before 4 p.m. but curtailed their routine because of fog over the bay, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
Parking and robotaxis
The city has set temporary no-parking zones along parts of the waterfront, including Jefferson Street near Fisherman's Wharf, ABC7 reported. It has also drawn a temporary geofence that keeps Waymo and Zoox robotaxis out of large sections of the waterfront, after self-driving cars were reported to have added to congestion around Fourth of July street closures.
Getting there
- Muni is running extra vehicles to popular viewing spots.
- BART says it is running longer trains all weekend.
- Ferries have added sailings for Fleet Week crowds.
Where to watch
The official reviewing stand is at Marina Green, but during Friday's Parade of Ships, people also watched from Fort Point, Fisherman's Wharf and the Embarcadero. Fleet Fest runs Saturday and Sunday in front of the SkyStar Wheel at Fisherman's Wharf, with live music, food vendors and military and emergency-response exhibits.
Flying out?
The air show also slows SFO. On Friday the FAA put a ground delay program in place, citing staffing, and by evening 457 flights had been delayed and eight canceled, according to Chronicle flight tracking. Travelers this weekend should check with their airline before heading to the airport.
