Fish has been serving sustainable seafood on the Sausalito waterfront since 2004. This fall it has a reason to celebrate: California king salmon is back on the menu, Eater SF reports.
Why the salmon matters
Co-owners Bill Foss and Kenny Belov also run the wholesale business TwoXSea. Both businesses have strict rules about what they'll buy: the catch can't harm other species or drain the ecosystem. King salmon only just came back after three years in which overfishing dropped Northern California's population to dangerously low levels, according to Eater. The bone-in salmon steak special is 10 to 12 ounces and costs $36. It comes over charred Brentwood corn with black garlic miso aioli.
What else to order
- Chowder: Portuguese Red with linguica, clams and smoked paprika, or New England-style ($8 cup, $12 bowl).
- Trout dog ($18): a house-made trout sausage grilled over oak.
- Dungeness crab roll ($43): dressed only in butter, cream and chives.
- Trout smash burger: it replaced the beef burger.
Fish is a market as well as a restaurant, but the display case no longer holds the day's catch because the restaurant is too busy, Eater says. You can still ask to buy fresh fish to take home. Expect lines into the outdoor seating area on sunny weekends.
