Four candidates are running for two four-year seats on the Emeryville City Council. The winners will be sworn in in December 2026 and join Matthew Solomon, Courtney Welch and Sukhdeep Kaur, who each have two years left in their terms.
The incumbents
David Mourra (Councilmember/Engineer) has lived in Emeryville for 18 years, joined the council in 2022 and served as mayor last year. He's a former Planning Commission member and biotech engineer. He's focused on public safety and clean streets, and he points to expanded bike and pedestrian infrastructure, the electrification of the city fleet and work with the governor's office on immigration enforcement.
Kalimah Atreyu Priforce (Educator/Public Advocate) grew up in foster care in Brooklyn and was named an Obama White House Champion of Change. He describes himself as a democratic socialist and has pushed for a vacancy tax. "Rent is too damn high," he told the E'ville Eye.
The challengers
Corry Frydlewicz (web developer/project manager) opposes the Flock license-plate cameras the council approved in 2023 and data sharing with ICE. He says more housing means lower rents and is running a volunteer-only campaign.
Brandon Soublet, 39, is a public policy analyst with a master's in public policy from Georgetown. He lives in Emery Bay Village, wants more walkable and bike-friendly streets, and has pointed to traffic chaos at Anna Yates school drop-off.
Also on the ballot
Emeryville voters will also decide a business tax change. See our Measure BB explainer.
