Ed R. Levin County Park sits in the grassy, chaparral-covered foothills of the Diablo Range above Milpitas. Wikipedia says it is the city’s largest park and is run by Santa Clara County Parks. It is named for Edgar R. Levin (1908–1965), an open space advocate and county supervisor. Trails from the park lead up toward Monument Peak.

Lakes and walls

The park has two reservoirs, Sandy Wool Lake and Spring Valley Pond, that collect runoff from the hills to the east. It also has a dog park and horseback riding areas. Wikipedia notes that the park contains some of the East Bay Walls, low stone walls whose origin is unknown.

Hang gliding and paragliding

On many days the sky above the park is busy with gliders. Wings of Rogallo, the club that manages flying at the site, says Ed Levin is open to hang glider and paraglider pilots of all levels, from students to the most advanced ratings. Each launch has its own minimum rating, and pilots must review the site procedures and sign waivers before flying. The club notes that cattle may be in the area and should be given space.

Know before you go

As of the club’s February 2026 update, the park was open year-round from 8 a.m. to sunset with a $6 vehicle entry fee. Check Santa Clara County Parks for current hours and fees before you go.
