Michael D'Ambrosio, principal of Amador Elementary School in Dublin, made it onto national television last week. He danced in the "Dance Party Travel Trivia" segment of ABC's "Live with Kelly and Mark," hosted by Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos.

How it happened

D'Ambrosio took a rare personal day to travel to New York and watch the Knicks raise their first championship banner in 53 years, Patch reported. His wife helped plan the trip, and she loves the show, so the couple went to a taping. When producers asked for volunteers to audition as that morning's dancer, she told him to raise his hand.

"Then the husband in me" took over, D'Ambrosio told Patch. "Of course I was the only guy." Producers brought down seven or eight people, and the crowd of roughly 160 to 180 cheered for its pick. The crowd chose him.

"I was the assistant head coach for hip-hop a few years ago, but I don't like attention on myself," he told the Pleasanton Weekly. "If I need to act silly for kids, no problem."

On air

He kept mouthing "You owe me" to his wife while he freestyled. He also said he toned it down a little: "I'm a principal." "That was incredible," Ripa told him. "I should be at work right now," he replied.

D'Ambrosio told the Pleasanton Weekly he used to tell nervous leadership students to "be comfortable with being uncomfortable." Back at school, he's been teased with "Been to any shows lately?" Still, seeing the banner go up was the best part of the trip, he told Patch.
