At the south edge of Antioch, a reservoir in the hills draws anglers all year.

The park

The park district says Contra Loma's 775 acres include an 80-acre reservoir for year-round fishing, hiking, biking and nature study. Wikipedia says the reservoir is owned by the Contra Costa Water District and holds catfish, black and striped bass, bluegill, trout and redear sunfish. Anglers need a daily fishing access permit. Alcohol is not permitted anywhere in the park. In 2014, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation was updating its long-term plan for the park, replacing a 1975 plan written before eastern Contra Costa County's population boom.

Right now

As of Oct. 28, 2026, the district reports no blue-green algae advisories at the reservoir. The swim lagoon is closed, and Lake View Trail is closed at the cattle pond because of storm damage.
