Brentwood is moving ahead with closing the pickleball courts at Creekside Park, despite strong pushback from players and neighbors, Contra Costa News reported.
Why it matters: Creekside is a popular spot for pickleball, and many residents told the council it serves as a community gathering place as well as a place to play.
Key dates
The Creekside Park pickleball courts close beginning Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, the City of Brentwood announced. Temporary courts at the Sunset Sports Complex on Elkins Way open Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 7 a.m.
The council vote
The City Council voted at a special meeting on Oct. 19 to close Creekside once the temporary courts at Sunset Park are ready for use. The action reaffirmed direction the council unanimously gave on Sept. 21, according to Contra Costa News.
The resolution also directs the city to prioritize temporary courts in the back parking lot at Sunset Park and reserves $1,726,871 in the General Fund for future capital projects. It calls for notices to residents within 1,000 feet of Creekside Park seeking input on a feasibility study for the future use of the courts, including noise and parking impacts.
What residents said
Dozens of residents attended. Many criticized how the city handled the issue, questioned the safety of the temporary courts and asked for more community involvement before closing a popular facility, Contra Costa News reported.
The city thanked players for their patience during the transition.
