Berkeley police are investigating a string of overnight burglaries that hit six businesses early Sunday, Nov. 1, the morning after Halloween.
Where the burglaries happened
Fourth Street: Oceanview Diner, Kiehl's and iScream
San Pablo Avenue: Casa Latina
Southside: Kingpin Donuts on Durant Avenue and Hashtag Poki on Telegraph Avenue
Police said the burglars smashed a window at each business and took the cash drawers, which usually hold little money. “Got hit at 3AM 🤒 Happy Halloween I guess!” Hashtag Poki wrote on Instagram.
Police are investigating whether the break-ins are related. KTVU reported the burglaries appeared to be the work of the same group. Readers told The Berkeley Scanner that several businesses in neighboring Albany were also hit.
No arrests have been announced. For owners, the repair bills for broken storefront glass often cost more than whatever was in the stolen drawers.
