Belvedere's City Council race on Nov. 3 has two candidates for two at-large seats: incumbents Jane Cooper and Peter Mark.

Why there's no contest

Kate Benediktsson took out papers Aug. 6 and filed on Aug. 7, the deadline, but the city's elections office found she did not have enough valid signatures, City Clerk Beth Haener told The Ark. Belvedere candidates need signatures from 20 to 30 registered city voters. Haener said applicants who come up short are normally given time to gather more, but the Aug. 7 cutoff left none.

Cooper and Mark were both first elected in 2022. The Ark reports this would be their last term under a local custom that limits council members to two terms.

What else is on Belvedere ballots

Belvedere voters also decide the Reed Union School District board and its $115 million school bond, Measure O (see our Measure O explainer), the Tamalpais Union High School District board, Marin County's Measure P childcare parcel tax, and 14 statewide propositions. VoterDecoder lists Belvedere in Congressional District 2 (Jared Huffman vs. Robin Littau), Assembly District 12 (Eric Lucan vs. Jackie Elward) and State Senate District 2 (Damon Connolly vs. Tief Gibbs).

How to vote

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Polls and vote centers close at 8 p.m., and mailed ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and arrive within seven days. You can check your registration and ballot status at sos.ca.gov/elections. California lets you register and vote the same day at a vote center.
