Some voters will open their ballots and find an Assembly race with only one name. In the 4th Assembly District, the Secretary of State's certified list shows a single candidate: Democrat Cecilia M. Aguiar-Curry, the incumbent, listed as "State Assemblymember."
How it got here
California uses a top-two primary, so normally two candidates advance to November. In AD4, Aguiar-Curry was the only candidate in the June 2 primary, according to Ballotpedia. She won 100% of the 90,380 votes cast in that race.
Why it's still on the ballot
Unlike some local races that are canceled when uncontested, as happened in Oakley this year, the Assembly contest stays on the ballot. AD4 voters will see it and can mark Aguiar-Curry's name or leave it blank. Leaving one race blank does not affect the rest of your ballot.
Last time
The seat was contested in 2024. Aguiar-Curry beat Republican Darren Ellis 66.5% to 33.5%, with 200,698 votes cast, according to Ballotpedia.
How to vote
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Polls and vote centers close at 8 p.m., and mailed ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and arrive within seven days. You can check your registration and ballot status at sos.ca.gov/elections. California lets you register and vote the same day at a vote center.
