The Alameda County Water District (ACWD) provides drinking water to Fremont, Newark and Union City. Two of its board seats are on the Nov. 3 ballot, and both incumbents have challengers.
Ward 2
- Judy C. Huang, the incumbent ACWD director
- Jason Miguel, a water district engineer
Ward 3
- Paul Sethy, the incumbent
- Yang Shao, a current Fremont City Council member
The water board has also been a stepping stone in the other direction this year: ACWD Director Aziz Akbari is one of four candidates for Fremont City Council District 4, according to the Alameda County candidate list. Our Fremont council guide covers that race.
Why it matters
Water board members set rates and approve long-term supply and pipeline investments for the three cities.
How to vote
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Polls and vote centers close at 8 p.m., and mailed ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and arrive within seven days. You can check your registration and ballot status at sos.ca.gov/elections. California lets you register and vote the same day at a vote center.
