Wunderlich Park is a hillside park in Woodside with redwood forest, open meadows, oaks and madrones. San Mateo County Parks says it's largely open space, laced with trails for hiking and horseback riding.
History
The land was donated to the county by Martin Wunderlich, the county says. It includes the former Folger family ranch. The estate stable and nearby buildings have been restored as a historic site.
On the trail
Wikipedia's entry on Woodside calls Wunderlich extremely popular with hikers and equestrians. It says the shared trails span almost 1,000 acres. Expect to meet horses, and yield to them. The county notes there are picnic tables for drop-in use but no reservable day-use facilities.
The county's park page also lists a volunteer broom-pull event on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, for anyone who wants to help remove invasive broom.
Woodside has more nearby. Wikipedia lists Huddart County Park and Midpen's Purisima open space among the town's preserves. See our guide to Russian Ridge for a Skyline Boulevard option.
