Turo will start showing renters which Teslas on its marketplace have Full Self-Driving (Supervised), using direct access to Tesla's API to confirm the software is active, TechCrunch reported Monday. Turo's announcement says the U.S. rollout starts Oct. 28.
What changes
- Verified listings: Hosts who link their Tesla account will have FSD status checked and shown on eligible listings automatically, according to the Turo announcement.
- Free trial: Eligible U.S. hosts can get a one-month FSD (Supervised) trial.
- Safety language: Renters will see warnings that they must supervise the system and be ready to take over at any moment, and can watch a Tesla-made tutorial, TechCrunch reported.
Why both companies want it
Turo said the Model 3 and Model Y are the third- and fourth-most rented vehicles on its platform this year. Chief executive Andre Haddad said Turo's research shows 55% of Americans are interested in driverless technology for travel, rising to 71% for Gen Z.
For Tesla it is another push for its paid software. Last week Tesla said about 1.7 million customers have paid for FSD out of more than 10 million cars sold, and that more than 75% of North American buyers in the third quarter paid for an FSD subscription, TechCrunch reported.
