Davis Warren threw for 303 yards and four touchdowns as Stanford held off NC State 31-28 at Stanford Stadium on Friday night.
Why it matters: The win puts Stanford at 4-4 (2-3 ACC) and 4-1 at home. But the Cardinal are 0-3 on the road and play their next three games away, needing at least one win to have a shot at their first bowl game since 2018, AP reported.
Key numbers
- Micah Ford ran for 150 yards. Nico Brown caught two touchdown passes, and Caden High had nine catches for 103 yards and a score.
- Stanford piled up 234 yards in the first quarter, its most in an opening quarter since 2017, per Stanford Athletics.
- Attendance was 13,949.
How it went
Warren hit Brown and Sedrick Irvin for touchdowns on the first two drives for a 14-0 lead. NC State tied it, but Warren led a 90-yard drive in the final two minutes of the half, finding High from 26 yards out with 25 seconds left for a 21-14 lead.
After NC State had a touchdown wiped out by an offensive pass interference call, Stanford went 90 yards again, with Warren hitting Brown on fourth-and-4 for a 28-14 lead. A field goal kept it a two-score game. NC State's CJ Bailey threw his second touchdown pass with 1:23 left, but Stanford recovered the onside kick to seal it.
"What matters is defending our home turf," Warren said, according to AP.
