If you were planning to visit the Santa Rosa Junior College Multicultural Museum this week, wait a few days. The museum says it is closed Thursday, Oct. 29, and Friday, Oct. 30, for exhibit preparation.

What the museum is

The museum is on SRJC's main campus in central Santa Rosa. Wikipedia says it was originally called the Jesse Peter Museum. It focuses on Native American art of North America and ethnographic art from Mesoamerica, Central and South America, Africa and Asia. Its permanent exhibits include Native American baskets, jewelry and pottery from the Elsie Allen Collection, which the college acquired in the 1970s. Students at SRJC and other schools use the collection for multicultural studies.

The museum's stated mission is to promote awareness and appreciation of diverse cultural achievements in material form and to preserve and display them for the public.
