Halloween falls on a Saturday, and towns across Sonoma County are planning daytime events. Here's a guide from city and organizer pages and Sonoma Magazine's Halloween list.

Morning

Healdsburg Farmers Market Pumpkin Festival, 8:30 to 11 a.m., Foley Family Community Pavilion, 3 North St. It has contests for pumpkin race cars (they need wheels and must roll), pumpkin carving and costumes, with age groups of 7 and under, 8 to 15, and 16 and up. Register from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Winners get market bucks and prizes from local businesses, Sonoma Magazine reported.

Midday and afternoon

  • Halloween Booo Bash, Forestville, noon to 3 p.m. at Oaks Park, with trick-or-treating at vendor booths. Free.
  • Sonoma Spooktacular, 3 to 5 p.m. Families trick-or-treat around Sonoma Plaza, hosted by the Sonoma Valley Visitors Bureau, according to the city of Sonoma. The city's calendar also lists the Saturday Harvest Market at Sonoma Garden Park the same day.
  • Windsor Día de Muertos Celebration on the Green, 3 to 7 p.m., Windsor Town Green. It's the finale of a month of events, with music, dance, costumes, a lowrider car show, food and local makers. Community altars and a Tree of Life stay up through Nov. 2. The event is free, though food and goods are for sale. Organizers suggest bringing beach chairs and blankets, and note the Windsor SMART station is one block west of the Green.
  • Graton Halloween, 3 to 10 p.m. at Graton Town Square, with pumpkin carving, apple bobbing, a costume contest, the band Batacha at 6 and 7:30 p.m., and a dentist candy buy-back. Free.
  • Halloween dog costume party, 2 to 4 p.m. at Crooked Goat Brewing's Petaluma taproom.

After dark (adults)

  • Night of the Chicken Dead, 7 to 11 p.m. at Hall of the Above in Petaluma. Ticketed, with DJ dancing and costume prizes.
  • Dinucci's Masquerade, the Valley Ford restaurant's 25th annual Halloween party, 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., 21 and over.
  • Halloween Masquerade Ball at Laguna Lab, Sebastopol, 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., 21 and over, $60.
