SummerHill Apartment Communities has filed a formal application to replace the closed Hillsdale Inn in San Mateo with an apartment building and townhomes, about 278 homes in all, according to the City of San Mateo and San Francisco YIMBY.
Why it matters: The three-acre site at 477 and 341 E. Hillsdale Blvd. has sat in limbo for more than a decade. It has had several housing proposals since 2016, and Hoodline, citing Houseberry, reported this one is the largest.
What's proposed
The city says the plan would demolish the 58,955-square-foot hotel, a self-service car wash and a car rental business to build a seven-story multifamily building plus townhomes. San Francisco YIMBY's latest report describes 248 apartments in the main building and 29 townhouse-style units in five three-story buildings.
The apartments would include 177 one-bedrooms, 54 two-bedrooms and 18 three-bedrooms, YIMBY reported. Townhomes would have three or four bedrooms. Amenities would include a lobby, lounge, fitness area, pool and spa, rooftop deck and courtyards, the city said.
Unit and parking counts vary between project documents, Hoodline noted.
Affordable homes
The project includes 41 below-market-rate units, 37 for low-income households and four for moderate-income households.
What's next
The application was filed under SB 330, which locks in development rules and fees at the time of submission, the city said. The cost and construction timeline have not been released.
