The San Mateo County History Museum is celebrating a big expansion. History in Motion, a grand opening for the new Taube Family Carriage House, takes place Saturday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the museum campus, 2200 Broadway in Redwood City. It happens rain or shine.
Schedule
According to the San Mateo County Historical Association, the day opens with music on Courthouse Square at 10 a.m., followed by remarks and a ribbon cutting at 10:30. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the new exhibits open, with craft activities for kids, music performances and pop-up talks.
What is new
The museum is housed in the 1910 county courthouse, known for its stained-glass rotunda dome. Downtown Redwood City's events listing says the new carriage house opens with new exhibits, and one ticket will cover the carriages, the new exhibits and the historic Lathrop House. The museum also offers free admission on the first Friday of each month.
Make a day of it
Courthouse Square is the heart of downtown Redwood City, with restaurants and the Fox Theatre nearby. The museum's Art on the Square holiday show, with 30 local artists, is also coming up later in the season.
