Russian River Brewing Co.'s famous double IPA, Pliny the Elder, is getting a cartoon makeover. The November batch will carry characters from 'Pearls Before Swine,' the comic strip by Santa Rosa cartoonist Stephan Pastis, the Sonoma Index-Tribune and NorCal Public Media reported.

"You have Stephan and Pig and Goat and Rat, just kind of surrounding the Pliny circle," co-owner Natalie Cilurzo told NorCal Public Media.

The bottles go on sale locally the week of Nov. 2, with wider distribution starting Nov. 12. They may last through Thanksgiving.

Pastis will sign bottles and his new book, 'Pearls Jubilee,' at the Windsor brewpub on Nov. 12 from 5 to 6 p.m. The event is free. Cilurzo said Pastis is starting his book tour at the Charles M. Schulz Museum and has never done a signing at a brewery.

"I cannot tell you how exciting it is to have my comic strip characters on the label of what is one of the greatest beers in the world," said Pastis, whose strip runs in more than 900 newspapers. "I will be the envy of all of my beer-drinking cartoonist peers."
