Pleasanton police are still looking for a man wanted on multiple warrants who drove away from officers at a hotel Friday evening, Oct. 23, then left his car and escaped on foot through the Val Vista neighborhood, the Pleasanton Weekly reported.
Why it matters: The search led to a Nixle alert telling people to avoid Val Vista Park and shelter in place, but police now say they don't believe the man poses an ongoing threat.
How it started
Just after 5:30 p.m., a Flock camera alert flagged a vehicle linked to a wanted man and to an evading-police case in Campbell, Lt. Chris Lewellyn told the Pleasanton Weekly. Officers found the car empty in a hotel parking lot.
"As officers worked to confirm the individual's identity and lodging information, the suspect entered the vehicle and fled despite officers' commands to stop," Lewellyn said. The man drove through the Val Vista Park area, then ditched the car and ran.
The search
Police set up a perimeter around Inglewood Drive and Mason Street, with help from California Highway Patrol air support and an Alameda County Sheriff's Office K-9 team, PleasantonCA.city reported. He was not found that night.
Police have not released the man's name or said what the other warrants involve.
What's next
The car was impounded as part of the Campbell case, and Pleasanton police have asked the Alameda County District Attorney's Office to file charges. The investigation is ongoing.
