Kiara Bowling says she feels blessed. Nearly three months after a car driven by two young brothers hit her in East Oakland, she can walk again, ABC7 reported.

"I feel blessed to be here and to still be able to walk," Bowling, 32, told ABC7.

What happened

Bowling was walking a friend's dog, Grizzly, near 35th and Mangels avenues, close to Interstate 580, when she was hit, KTVU reported. Surveillance video showed a white Toyota Camry, driven by two brothers, sideswipe another car and then hit her. KTVU and other outlets reported at the time that the boys were 6 and 4. ABC7 now gives their ages as 7 and 4.

A source close to the boys' family told KTVU that the older boy found the car keys in his father's pocket while their parents were sleeping. The dog was also hurt but recovered.

The recovery

Bowling suffered a traumatic brain injury and was treated at Highland Hospital. She told ABC7 she had to relearn how to walk, talk and eat. She said she has no memory of the crash and doesn't recall anything until the middle of September.

When she returned to the intersection, several people who helped her that morning stopped by. "There was already somebody giving her CPR," said Rita Macina, one of them. Bowling also reconnected by FaceTime with Lavelle Shah-Marquis, who was visiting from Seattle and helped at the scene.

Her family told KTVU early on that they held no ill will toward the children. KTVU's legal analyst said the boys were unlikely to face charges, but the parents could face legal scrutiny.
