Netflix cut 227 jobs at its Los Gatos headquarters at 121 Albright Way, and eBay eliminated 229 positions on Oct. 21 at its headquarters at 2025 Hamilton Ave. in San Jose's Willow Glen area, according to WARN notices filed with the California Employment Development Department, The Mercury News reported.

Why it matters: The two filings add 456 South Bay jobs to a year of heavy tech layoffs across the region.

What the filings say

  • Netflix, Los Gatos: 227 permanent layoffs, with Sept. 14 listed as the effective date. The notice was processed Oct. 19.
  • Netflix, Los Angeles: a separate notice lists 267 jobs, bringing the two California Netflix notices to 494 positions, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
  • eBay, San Jose: 229 permanent layoffs, effective Oct. 21.

The bigger picture

Tech companies have disclosed plans for nearly 14,500 Bay Area layoffs so far in 2026, according to a Mercury News review of WARN notices. That already tops the 10,170 tech job cuts the EDD filings show for all of 2025.

Neither filing, as reported, explains which teams were affected.
