The multiplex at 1500 N. Shoreline Blvd. in Mountain View is reopening as Mountain View Cinema 16. Syufy Enterprises, which built it in the mid-1980s and owns the land, plans to have it running again before Christmas.

Cinemark ran the theater as Century 16 from 2006 until its lease with Syufy expired at the end of September, the Mountain View Voice reported. "Basically, we're taking it back after 20 years," Syufy marketing vice president Tony Maniscalco told the Voice.

What's changing

Every auditorium is getting new seats with personal tray tables, Syufy's Nancy Crane told the Los Altos Town Crier. Two auditoriums will carry an AXV premium format with a Barco 4K laser projector and more than 30 speakers. New concessions include Orville Redenbacher's popcorn, Nathan's Famous hot dogs, hand-scooped ice cream and pizza from local restaurant Tomatina.

Syufy hired Moving Image Technologies to refurbish all 16 screens, including system design, installation and commissioning, Digital Cinema Report said. The mix will include premium large-format and traditional auditoriums upgraded with laser projection and immersive audio. MIT expects to book the revenue in its fiscal quarter ending Dec. 31. "We are excited to bring Mountain View Cinema 16 back to the community," Crane said.

The longer-term plan for the site

Syufy has spent more than a decade planning to develop the property. The Voice reported that its latest Shoreline Gateway plans show eight residential buildings of nine to 15 stories around a park, plus retail, restaurants and a fitness center. The company did not say how the theater fits into that plan.
